View recent presentations & publications by our team. Randy S. Haluck, M.D., President and Chairman of the BoardDr. Haluck founded Verefi Technologies Inc in 2002. He is the head of Penn State's newly created Section of Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery and Director of the Simulation Deveopment and Cognitive Sciences Laboratory. He is the principal inventor/developer of Verefi's EndoTower, RapidFire/SmartTutor, and VR Demo/Smart Tool. A Pennsylvania native, Dr. Haluck received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh, his medical degree from Penn State Hershey College of Medicine, and his residency training at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Hershey. Dr. Haluck has authored numerous publications on minimally invasive surgery and surgical education using simulation. He serves on the Committees on Resident Education and Technology of the Society for American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the Advisory Council for Medical Robotics and Information technology, and the Adhoc Committee on Technology and Informatics of the Association for Academic Surgery. Roger W. Webster, Ph.D., Chief Science OfficerDr. Webster, a Professor of Computer Science at Millersville University, co-founded Verefi Technologies, Inc in 2002. He provides direction for the software research and development of the company in addition to his ongoing research in haptic programming environments, deformable 3D haptic organs, graphics and virtual reality, video game development, and other areas. He brings practical real-world experience to both his position as Chief Science Officer and at Millersville University as a result of his work in the medical systems division of Hewlett-Packard Corporation. A graduate of the University of Southern Maine School of Business and Economics, Dr. Webster also earned an MS in CIS from Bentley College, and the MA and the Ph.D.degrees in Computer Science from Temple University's School of Engineering. He has participated in postdoctoral work in robotics, expert systems, and neural networks at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Advanced Engineering Study and in 3D graphics programming, human modeling, simulation, and video game development at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Human Simulation and Modeling. Carol L. Lake, M.D., M.B.A., M.P.H., Chief Executive OfficerDr. Lake was appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective February 7, 2005. Dr. Lake, a Pennsylvania native, brings more than 10 years of healthcare management experience to the position, most recently as Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Assistant Vice President for Health Affairs/Health Sciences Continuing Education at the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY. A cardiac anesthesiologist by subspecialty, Dr. Lake spearheaded the development of the Paris Simulation Laboratory at the University of Louisville and is the co-editor of the book Practical Health Care Simulations, published in 2004. Dr. Lake is a graduate of Juniata College and currently serves on its Board of Trustees. She is also a member of the Board of the Juniata Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. She received her M.D. from the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel), the MBA from the University of California, Irvine Graduate School of Management, and the MPH from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Finally, Dr. Lake is a internationally known author, editor, and lecturer with more than 100 lectures and numerous publications to her credit. She serves as Editor in Chief of Advances in Anesthesia and Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia as well as Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. Rodney D. Shenk, Chief Software EngineerRod Shenk joined the company on February 14, 2005 as Software Engineer. Mr. Shenk has a B.S. in Computer Science from Millersville University, where he worked on several research projects in computer graphics, games, and simulation. He received the Departmental Award for Excellence in Computer Science, and worked for VTI previously as a co-op student in 2003. Michael J. Fiorill, ConsultantMr. Fiorill is a graduate of Millersville University with a B.S. in Computer Science. He is currently the President of Digital Indigo Technologies, Lancaster, PA (1998-Present) and is responsible for Project Management, Hardware Engineering, Software Development, and Linux Administrator. Cynthia A. Miller, Special Assistant to the PresidentCindy Miller is the Coordinator of Special Projects in the Minimally Invasive Surgery Research Laboratory at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where she is responsible for the coordination of multi-size research studies including project staffing and task assignments, distribution of research protocols and liaison with other institutions. Her extensive experience in the Life Sciences includes: Medical Journal Coordinator/Editorial Administrator for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery; Research Support Associate in Cardiothoracic Surgery; and Research Technician at Penn State College of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Stanford University Medical Center. Ms. Miller has a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Lebanon Valley College, where she was a member of Beta Beta Beta, the National Biology Honor Society. |
